Jazz is America's true art
form, and in the history of this music, one period stands out as a
magnificent "Golden Age" ... the era in which Irving Berlin, Cole Porter,
George and Ira Gershwin, Richard Rogers, Lorenz Hart, Hoagy Carmichael,
Harold Arlen, Johnny Mercer and others were writing incomparable music
played by the great, big bands of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Harry James,
the Dorseys, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and so many more.
That timeless music lives and thrives today in vibrant North San Diego
County thanks to the Big Band & Jazz Hall of Fame, a nonprofit foundation
formed to preserve, perform and promote greater appreciation of big band and
jazz music.
Rhythmic big band sounds, as originally written and
arranged, are eloquently recreated by the Big
Band & Jazz Hall of Fame Orchestra, the
true driving force behind the organization.
17 skilled musicians, with decades of
musical experience, each with a colorful history of his own - as well as
several fine vocalists - attract a wide audience of jazz music enthusiasts
at concerts, dances, festivals, and special events.
The Foundation also awards music scholarships to
promising music students at various schools throughout North County.
